How to Find Your Perfect Finish

Day 3: Color Perfecting Wet/Dry Finish

I'm sure that with the Instant Manicure on Day 1 and the Extreme Repair Hand Creme on Day 2, a lot of you thought you knew what Day 3 would be. And you're right, that would be predictable. So I decided to shake it up a little!

With all of that talk yesterday about AHAs and exfoliants and a post so long I started wondering myself if it would ever end, I wanted today to be short and sweet. And simple. And loveable!

I've been thinking more and more about my Top 3 fave products, and realised something. It's not that I have trouble choosing only 3. It's that I know right away what my first 2 are, and then I have trouble rounding them out with just 1 more. After 2, it's an all-or-nothing approach for me! Kind of like eating chips. I can have a little taste, or the whole bag, but can't seem to stop somewhere reasonable in between! Lucky for all of us I won't have to decide, since there are still 362 products to go after today! And so without further ado, today's product is the Wet/Dry Finish.

This is a best-seller for many consultants, and is actually a top seller for BeautiControl, but one of my friends just couldn't figure out WHY until she saw a demo in person. This is probably because she has very sensitive and normal/dry skin, so she doesn't need the added oil absorption that comes with the wet/dry. My face is so oily, though, that even when I use a primer and a liquid foundation, I still need to follow-up with my wet/dry or I will feel gross & greasy in a few short hours. And I don't know about you, but when I put makeup on in the morning I like to know that it's going to stay with as few touch-ups as possible throughout the day. That's why I've started doing the demo on myself, so that anyone watching can see the difference. This is how you can test it for yourself:

  1. Take your wet/dry and a powder brush. On the RIGHT SIDE OF YOUR FACE ONLY, dust your wet/dry all over. You will instantly see a difference between your skin with the powder on the right, and your bare skin on the left. Notice how it evens out your complexion and gives some nice oil and shine control right away? On lazy days or chill/informal events, or most weekends, this is how I will apply my foundation. I'll add some eyeliner and mascara, maybe a little lip gloss, and call it done. Easy-peasy! If you're not used to wearing foundation, or makeup at all, this is the perfect level to start. If you want a bit more, join me at step 2.
  2. Using the sponge included in your wet/dry (this is important! The triangle sponges are not nearly as nice & don't have the same effect. If you need a new wet/dry sponge, ask your consultant!), rub it in the wet/dry and then apply it to the LEFT SIDE OF YOUR FACE ONLY. You will see the added level of coverage at this level: any pimples or acne marks, scars, light beauty spots, and some freckles, will start to fade. Your skin tone will be even more even than on the right side of your face, where you applied only with a powder brush. Do you see the difference? This is what I would do for days that I want to wear eye shadow (it's just a personal opinion but if I'm making the effort to wear eye shadow, I want the rest of me to be a bit more “done up” too), when I have a special even to go to, or for work days. If this is how you choose to wear it, don't forget to use your powder brush after to dust away any extra powder so your skin doesn't look dry & flaky. Still looking for a bit more coverage? Step 3 is for you!
  3. Take your Herbal Hydrating Mist, spritz your sponge, and apply the same as Step 2 on the RIGHT SIDE OF YOUR FACE ONLY. In this step, dark circles under your eyes will all but disappear, along with redness from acne & scars, freckles, beauty spots, and more! It won't help with texture, but it covers a surprising amount. I find this level to be the equivalent to a thicker liquid foundation, but without the mess or the fuss. It's still just as easy to apply as in step 2, and notice the difference on each side of your face? Your complexion is now nearly flawless, as the product promises. Again, don't forget that powder brush to dust off the extra.

Now you know. An easy foundation that moonlights as a pressed powder and compares to a mineral makeup (but performs better! - check out Gary's blog below to read about wet/dry vs. mineral makeups). All of this, in a case not much bigger than my iPhone. Remember: definitely not for our dry-skinned friends; but oily, combination, and most normal skin types will play nicely with this one.

If you haven't used this product before try it, and let me know what you think. If you have used it, what did you like about it? What did you dislike?

Is it on Gary's Blog?
It's also mentioned in his article about foundations & primers: http://beauticontrol.typepad.com/gary/2013/02/beauticoach-beauticontrols-got-you-covered.html
AND it's in a Q&A post about mineral makeup. This one is a really old post product-wise, and some of what he says they're “working on” has been done & incorporated into BC ages ago: http://beauticontrol.typepad.com/gary/2007/09/your-question-2.html

Is there a YouTube video?!
YEEEESSS!!!! This is my all-time fave Gary vlog, after watching this one I tried the wet/dry for myself and fell in LOVE. But this video is actually what convinced me to try it in the first place. See for yourself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s4AUke0WabM
